Abbasids

The Abbasids were based in Iraq and ruled Egypt from 750-870 and again from 905-935.  After Baghdad was destroyed by the Mongols in 1258, the Abbasid ruler moved to Cairo under the Mamluks and claimed authority there until 1517, although they had no political power.

The only site to visit in Cairo from this time period is the Nilometer.  The Tombs of the Abbasid Caliphs in the Southern Cemetery are from the 13th century.
